Physical DescriptionA drawn and painted illustration featuring a portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt. FDR, with an oversized head, is shown seated on a bluff. Below him, in the lower left corner, a series of skyscrapers rise up behind which is seen the Statue of Liberty. A yellow beam from the statue's torch shines towards FDR. On the bluff behind FDR is a statue of Lady Justice mounted on a pedestal. Peeping out from behind the pedestal is a caricature of Uncle Sam. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corners: J. MATHEWS.

Most of the piece is done in a simple, illustrative form painted in tones of black, brown, and yellow. FDR's head, however, is a detailed pencil drawing with an almost photographic quality.
