This series contains original posters printed and distributed during the periods of World War I and World War II. The majority of the posters are English-language American posters distributed to further the war effort in the United States during both World Wars. Topics covered in the posters include recruitment, production, conservation and rationing, patriotism, finance, civil defense, public health and safety, women in war, support for allied nations, and demobilization. The World War I posters also include a small group of foreign posters from Britain, Canada, France, and Italy. The World War II posters include a number of foreign posters, some in other languages, either printed in other countries or meant to appeal to foreigners living within the United States.
