DescriptionAn oil on canvas painting of Algonac, the home of Warren Delano II, in Balmville (Newburgh), New York. Fronted by trees and a lawn, the beige-colored house with dark brown shutters and trim is shown with ivy growing up the entrance portico. Furniture is visible on the porch at the right side of the house. The painting is signed and dated by artist in the lower left corner: I. V. Lounsbery / May 1893.

The painting is framed in a gold-tone wood frame with red and green painted highlights.
Label TextLocated in Balmville, New York - a hamlet of Newburgh - the property on which Algonac sits was purchased by Warren Delano II (1809-1898), the grandfather of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Delano hired architects Andrew Jackson Downing and Calvert Vaux to improve the existing home and grounds and create an Italianate-style country estate which was completed in 1852. FDR's mother, Sara, was born there in 1854, and married James Roosevelt there in 1880. In 1916, a fire destroyed the home. It was rebuilt by Warren Delano III.
