OBVERSE: Text reads: United States / FIFTY CENTS / SERIES OF 1875 / Fractional Currency. On the left side is an engraved portrait of William H. Crawford, Secretary of the Treasury from 1817 to 1825. Along the bottom of the note are the facsimile signatures of Register of the Treasury John Allison and Treasurer of the United States John C. New.

REVERSE: Text reads: UNITED STATES / Act of March 3D. 1863. Act of June 30TH. 1864. / FIFTY CENTS / THIS NOTE IS EXCHANGEABLE FOR / UNITED STATES NOTES / BY THE ASSISTANT TREASURERS AND /DESIGNATED DEPOSITARIES OF THE / UNITED STATES, IN SUMS NOT LESS THAN / THREE DOLLARS / RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT / OF ALL / DUES TO THE UNITED STATES LESS THAN / FIVE DOLLARS, EXCEPT CUSTOMS. / Patented July 24, 1866.
