DescriptionA toggle harpoon, with a movable blade, used for whaling. The toggling harpoon comes with a long length of rope, part of which is still attached to a loop on harpoon, and the rest of which is detached and divided into three sections.
Label TextFranklin D. Roosevelt purchased this harpoon for $15 at a January 5-6, 1926 sale of the American Art Association, Anderson Galleries, New York. The sale was of an "Important Maritime Collection, Including the Collections of James E. Bayles and Fred J. Peters, and a Selection of Ship Porcelains from the Trumbull-Prince Collection of Princeton University."Additional Details
