DescriptionA cream-colored stamp cover from Canada addressed to (handwritten in ink): Personal. / F. D. Roosevelt. / President of .U. S.A. / White House. / Washington, D. C. There is no return address. Adhered in the upper right of the envelope is a Canadian 1937 red-brown 3¢ King George VI postage stamp (Scott 233). The envelope is postmarked Quebec, Province of Quebec, January 16, 1939.
Printed on the reverse of the envelope, in red, is the coat of arms of the Conseil législatif du Québec. Also on the reverse is a black ink stamped message that reads: FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION / AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N. Y. The circled number "R94" is written in pencil in the lower right corner, and the number "DCW-5" is written in pencil near the top.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.Printed on the reverse of the envelope, in red, is the coat of arms of the Conseil législatif du Québec. After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including this stamp cover, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.
