DescriptionA trowel commemorating the 65th anniversary of Social Security. The trowel has a sterling silver blade, shank, and ferrule and a dark wood handle. Inscribed on the face of the blade is an inscription that reads: PRESENTED / TO THE / FDR PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY / AND MUSEUM / COMMEMORATING SOCIAL SECURITY'S / 65TH ANNIVERSARY / "SOCIAL SECURITY . . . / AN AMERICAN CORNERSTONE" / [facsimile signature] / KENNETH S. APFEL / COMMISSIONER / OF SOCIAL SECURITY / AUGUST 14, 2000. The manufacturer's information is engraved on the reverse of the blade: STERLING / by / BOARDMAN.
