Descriptiona) A microscope made of brass and black metal. The maker's name is engraved on the back: SWIFT & SON / 81 TOTTENHAM CTR. / LONDON W.C. The microscope is displayed with one glass slide.

b) A storage box/case for the microscope (a). The box is made of stained wood, has brass fixtures, and locks with a removable key. The lid of the box hinges open. Enclosed in the box are three more glass slides and eight various loose parts.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt had this microscope while he was a student at Harvard College. He may have used it in geology classes. It is on display in the EDUCATION exhibit in the Museum’s FOUNDATIONS OF A PUBLIC LIFE gallery.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on September 29, 1941. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
