DescriptionA round pinback 1938 license button allowing for non-resident fishing in Delaware. Black text on the white button reads: NON-RESIDENT / FULL TERM / FISHING LICENSE / 16 / 1938 / DELAWARE.

The reverse of the button has a safety catch pin and a holder for tags. Also on the reverse, the manufacturer's information is stamped into the metal: THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. • NEWARK, N.J. • / PAT. 1633725.
Label TextFranklin D. Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong fisherman. After his mobility became limited when he contracted polio in 1921, FDR spent a great deal of his leisure time either sailing or fishing. This Delaware fishing license button, and a similar one for hunting and trapping (see MO 1996.45.1), were sent to President Roosevelt in 1938 - along with accompanying paper licenses - by Leonard K. Yerker, President of Delaware's Board of Game and Fish Commissioners.
