DescriptionA decorated cow skin featuring the Boy Scouts of America emblem. On the surface of the leather, the emblem has been drawn in ink with various other smaller, industrial images drawn on the left and right, including an airplane, a steam engine, factories, bridges, and a welder working on an I-beam. Above and below the emblem is inked text that reads: BOY SCOUTS / of / AMERICA / TROOP / 206 / PITTSBURGH / PA. Below the emblem are the ink signatures of the troop members.
Label TextDuring the summer of 1941, Scoutmaster William F. Carson and Scouts Charles Ehrgott, James Ferguson, and Roland DiSino of Boy Scouts of America Troop 206 of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, did a good-will hike from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC to present their compliments and various messages to President Roosevelt, and to buy Defense Stamps. Along with several letters, including one from American Legion Brookline Post 540, the Scouts also delivered this decorated cow skin made by one of the Scouts in Troop 206.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on October 16, 1941. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
