DescriptionA letter opener in the shape of a tiny U.S. Navy sword in a sheath. The sword, which can be removed from the sheath, has an aluminum blade and a copper alloy guard and handle, with copper alloy braid and toggle looped around handle. The blade and handle are silver plated; the guard is gilded. The blade also has cast design and reads: U.S. NAVY. The sheath is a copper alloy with black-painted surface.
Label TextThis letter opener was presented to President Roosevelt on October 28, 1943 by Mrs. Una Connfelt. It is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
