Descriptiona) An Arabian saif (also scimitar). The curved blade of the sword is made of steel and has Arabic markings on one side. The bone guard, hilt, and curved pommel are covered in chased gold, gold filigree, and gold thread. Gold chains connect the pommel to the guard. Each side of the hilt has a row of four clusters, each cluster containing seven diamond-shaped gold pieces.
b) A leather scabbard partially covered with chased gold and gold filigree and set with 33 various sized diamonds. Two carrying rings are attached along one edge of the scabbard's throat.
The sword and scabbard were made by jewelers and goldsmiths at the Oasis of Hofuf, Saudi Arabia, near the Persian Gulf.
