DescriptionAn oil painting of Belvoir Castle. The castle sits high on a hill in the background. A stream, rider on horseback, and cows are seen in the foreground. There is no artist's information. It is framed in a 2" gilt wood frame.
Label TextBelvoir Castle was the country seat of the Duke of Rutland. James Roosevelt, FDR's father, was a friend of the Duke and stayed at the castle many times during the 1870s. James and FDR's mother, Sara, visited the castle in 1881 during their honeymoon. This painting is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 18, 1942. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
