DescriptionA white stamp cover from the American Consular Service in Morocco. The envelope is addressed to (pre-printed): THE HONORABLE / THE SECRETARY OF STATE, / Washington, D. C. / United States of America. Hand written in pencil in the lower left corner: 4 Seals + / Authentication / over. The return name is in the upper left corner. Adhered along the right side of the envelope are three British stamps: two 1912-1913 light blue 10p King George V stamps (Scott 171) each with a black surcharge in French currency "MOROCCO AGENCIES 1 FRANC" (Scott 409 - Great Britain, Office in Morocco); and one 1912-1913 green 4p King George V stamp (Scott 165) with a similar surcharge of "MOROCCO AGENCIES 40 CENTIMES" (Scott 406 - Great Britain, Offices in Morocco). The envelope is postmarked Casablanca, Morocco [date illegible] and has "Via Gibraltar" handwritten in ink to the left of the stamps.

The reverse of the envelope has the remnants of several American Consulate red wax seals and is postmarked Cirral, May 30, 1934. Also on the reverse is a black ink stamped message that reads: FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION / AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N. Y. The circled number "R203" is written in pencil in the lower right corner.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.

After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including this stamp cover, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.
