DescriptionAn oil on canvas-covered board painting of the Delano family home in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The springtime scene shows the side of the gray, multi-story Federal and Greek Revival house with wings. The house is fronted by several steps leading down to a lawn lined by trees including several pink and white flowering trees.

The painting is framed in a 3⅛" black and gold painted wood frame.
Label TextThis painting of the Delano family home in Fairhaven, Massachusetts was sent to Franklin D. Roosevelt in December 1944 or January 1945 by the artist, Lura M. Payne of Austin, Texas.

Built around 1832 by FDR's great-grandfather, Warren Delano I (1779-1866), the home was owned by members of the Delano family until Frederic A. Delano sold it in 1942. FDR visited the house a number of times, the last occasion being in 1936.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 23, 1945. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
