DescriptionA World War I pinback button. At the center, within a white circle, is a red, white, and blue stars and stripes patriotic shield encircled by a series of thin and thick bands in red, white, and blue. Blue, white, and red text reads: ★ INDUSTRIAL ★ / COMMITTEE / INDUSTRY IS PLEDGED / TO HELP THE BOYS / UNITED WAR WORK CAMPAIGN. The manufacturer's information is printed on a paper label on the reverse of the button.
Label TextThe United War Work Campaign, which ran from November 11-18, 1918, brought together seven non-governmental organizations to raise money to provide entertainment for American troops serving abroad during World War I. The organizations involved were the YMCA, the YWCA, the American Library Association, the War Camp Community Service, the Knights of Columbus, the Jewish Welfare Board, and the Salvation Army. The campaign raised over $170 million.
