DescriptionA handmade ship model, apparently of 20th century construction, of an unidentified 16th-century Spanish galleon. The detailed wood and fabric model depicts a three-masted, square-rigged, twelve-cannon galleon with string rigging, unfurled sails, a figurehead on the bow, and a stern carving - or appliqué - of Atlas holding the earth.

The model rests unattached on a small, rectangular base with wooden cradles and a pebbled stone surface.
Label TextThis model of a Spanish galleon was part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's personal ship model collection and was given to his son, Elliott, in 1941.
