At the center of the plate are left-facing profiles of the heads of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, both wearing crowns. Below the profiles is an American patriotic stars and stripes shield over which is a banner with wording that reads: JUNE 1939 / GEORGE VI AND ELIZABETH / UNITED STATES VISIT. The profiles and shield are flanked by arrows (left side) and a laurel branch (right side) with stars above and below.

The wide rim of the plate is divided into eight panels, three of which have components from the shield of the coat of arms of the United Kingdom: the harp of Ireland; the rampant lion of Scotland; and the three passant guardant lions of England. A fourth panel depicts the Welsh dragon.
