DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon titled along the top, “FIRST RAID ON THE CONVENTION LUMBERYARD.” It depicts an elephant, wearing a cap marked “GOP,” running with a long wooden board labeled “WET PLANK” under his arm. The elephant is running away from a group in the background that includes Franklin D. Roosevelt, a donkey, and three men identified as “AL.” [Al Smith], “RASKOB” [John J. Raskob], and “RITCHIE” [Albert C. Ritchie]. FDR, dressed as a carpenter, is holding sheets of paper identified as “PLANS DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM” and the donkey is left holding two sawhorses as they exclaim, “HEY! THAT’S THE ONLY PLANK WE’VE GOT, ALMOST!” The artist's signature is in the lower left corner: “J.N. Ding".
