DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon titled at the top, “THE SPRING SONG.” It depicts Franklin D. Roosevelt with the body of a bird labeled “PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE”. FDR is perched on the branch of a tree growing out of the dome of the U.S. Capitol building, and is singing a song with the words, “PROMISES TO CURTAIL GOVERNMENT EXPENSES.” The joyful sun is peeking out from behind the left side of the Capitol, while to the right of the Capitol, a man (“AMERICAN TAXPAYERS”) leans out of the window of a house saying, “AND I HOPE THE MELODY LINGERS ON!” The artist's signature and the publishing information is in the lower left corner: “LARIMER / NEWS–SENTINEL, / FORT WAYNE IND. / —1937.”
