DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon titled along the bottom, “THE AMERICAN SPHINZ [sic] WON’T SPEAK UNTIL MARCH 4TH.” It depicts the Great Sphinx of Giza with the head of Franklin D. Roosevelt and labeled “ROOSEVELT” on the body. Seated on the ground in front of the sphinx is a contemplative figure in the form of a question mark labeled “WAR DEBTS QUESTION.” In the left background behind the sphinx is the U.S. Capitol building. The artist has inscribed and signed the cartoon in the lower right corner: “MORRIS / Compliments of W.C. Morris . N.Y. / To [name erased].”
