DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon titled at the top, “Waiting for some light.” It shows a nighttime scene with Franklin D. Roosevelt at the top of a ladder working on a streetlight labeled “SUNDAY NIGHT BROADCAST.” Standing on the ground below him is an older man identified as “THE PUBLIC” holding a cane in his left hand and pointing up at FDR with his right hand while saying, “WHERE AM I? I’M TIRED STUMBLING AROUND AND I WANT TO KNOW WHERE I’M GOING!” The artist’s signature is in the lower right corner: “HUNGERFORD.”

On the reverse is a pencil sketch of an earlier cartoon concept for the same theme and having the same title, “Waiting for some light.” The sketch shows FDR reaching into a money purse labeled “SUNDAY NIGHT BROADCAST.” Seated on a stool in front of him is an older man identified as “THE PUBLIC” who is holding a cup for donations in one hand and a sign reading “PLEASE HELP THE BLIND” in the other.
Label TextThis cartoon was likely published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette which the artist, Cy Hungerford, worked for at the time.
