DescriptionA cutout from an American Consular Service envelope. The buff-colored envelope remnant is addressed to (typed): “The Honorable / The Secretary of State, / Washington, D. C.” Above the address is a red and white registration sticker with “R / Stockholm 3 / N:r 1847.” Adhered in the upper right corner is a Swedish 1925 light blue 90 öre Crown and Post Horn postage stamp (Scott152). The envelope is postmarked Stockholm, Sweden, February 5, 1934.

On the reverse of the envelope cutout is a black ink stamped message that states: FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION / AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N. Y.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.

After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including this stamp cover remnant, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.
