DescriptionA cutout from an American Consular Service envelope. The buff-colored envelope remnant has a partial address (handwritten in ink): “Honorable [cut off] / The Secretary of State.” Adhered along the top are six Swedish postage stamps: four 1925 violet 10 öre Heraldic Lion Supporting Arms of Sweden stamps (Scott 119), and two 1921 deep orange 1 krona Crown and Post Horn stamps (Scott 153). The envelope is postmarked Stockholm, Sweden, March 6, 1934
On the reverse of the envelope cutout is a black ink stamped message that states: FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION / AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N. Y.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.On the reverse of the envelope cutout is a black ink stamped message that states: FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION / AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N. Y.
After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including this stamp cover remnant, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.
