DescriptionA three-masted, square-rigged wooden model of the clipper ship, RAINBOW. The ship has a green and black hull, elaborate rigging, and no sails. There is some simple deck detail. An American flag hangs from rigging at the stern. The ship's name is on either side of the bow. The model rests in natural wood cradle.

Stored separately is a wooden base with a perimeter groove for placement of a case.
Label TextThis model was presented to President Roosevelt by John C. Weeks of Provincetown, Massachusetts on June 25, 1933, when the President stopped there during a sailing trip along the New England coast. Weeks presented this model to Roosevelt on behalf of the people of Provincetown, who had purchased it by popular subscription. Ancestors of Roosevelt owned the RAINBOW, which was launched in 1845 for the shipping firm of Howland & Aspinwall. William Henry Aspinwall, part owner of the merchant company, was brother to Mary Aspinwall Roosevelt, FDR's paternal grandmother.
