DescriptionAn original caricature portrait of Eleanor Roosevelt drawn in graphite pencil with a touch of red pencil at the gums. The portrait consists of an exaggerated head, neck, and shoulders view of Eleanor, turned slightly to the right of the page. On her shoulder is some sort of collared top, and around her neck is a single strand pearl or bead necklace. To the right of the portrait is the artist's signature and address written in pencil: PAUL BINDER / 6266 SUNSET BLVD., / HOLLYWOOD, / CALIF.
Label TextAs a young, unemployed artist, Paul Binder of Hollywood, California entered a caricature of Eleanor Roosevelt in an art exhibit and proceeded to win first place with it. This caricature of Mrs. Roosevelt - the artist's copy of his winning portrait - was sent to her in 1938 by Binder.
