DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the 1937 decommissioning of the U.S. Navy destroyer, USS BAINBRIDGE (DD-246). On the left side of the envelope is a blank ink stamped cachet consisting of a box with text that reads: 1921 / Keel Laid May 27, 1919 / Launched June 12, 1920 / Commissioned Feb. 9, 1921 / 1937.
The envelope is addressed to (handwritten in ink): The Honorable / Franklin D. Roosevelt / Washington, D.C. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1936 purple 3¢ Rhode Island Tercentenary Issue stamp (Scott 777). The envelope is postmarked U.S.S. BAINBRIDGE, November 20, 1937 with a “LAST DAY IN / COMMISSION" cancellation.
