DescriptionA large red, white, and blue screen-printed banner touting U.S. preparedness. At the center of the white banner is the outline of an eagle with outspread wings. The eagle has an anchor clutched in its right talon, two laurel branches clutched in its left talon, an illustrated portrait of FDR’s head in the middle, and a U.S. Air Force insignia roundel by its beak. Flanking the eagle, and below it, is wording in red that reads: U S / PREPAREDNESS. The top of the banner is edged with a line of white stars on a red band, and the bottom with a line of white stars on a blue band.
On the reverse of the banner is the maker's label: Jones Decorating Company / Inc. / Los Angeles - Denver.
Label TextThis banner was sent to Franklin D. Roosevelt in January 1941 by Marguerite Hummel of Hollywood, California as a "way of expressing happiness" over FDR's upcoming inauguration. The banner was made from a U.S. Safety design Hummel had previously sent FDR in 1936.On the reverse of the banner is the maker's label: Jones Decorating Company / Inc. / Los Angeles - Denver.
