DescriptionA three-masted, square-rigged wooden model of the clipper ship, WEST WIND. The ship has a black and copper hull and white deck trim. The sails are unfurled. The name of ship is on the rear of the hull: WEST WIND / NEW YORK. The model is fixed on a cradle attached to a wooden base.
Label TextThis model was sent to President Roosevelt by the maker, Leander D. Lovell. Roosevelt put the model on display in the White House residence and later agreed to exhibit it at the 1939 New York World's Fair. In 1941, the President included it in the inaugural display in the Naval Exhibition Room at the Roosevelt Library.
