Descriptiona) A two-piece slipcase covered with brown leather and buckram. Embossed gilt lettering on one side edge reads: HUDSON / RIVER SKETCHES / LODET / 1806-7. The slipcase contains an album of sketches (see b).

b) A bound album covered in tan leather with decorative gilt trim on the covers and page edges. Adhered to the album pages are nineteen original pencil and ink wash drawings of Hudson River scenes, et al. The spine of the album is accented with red leather and embossed gilt designs. Embossed gilt lettering on the spine reads: HUDSON / RIVER SKETCHES / LODET / 1806-7. Inside the album, the formal title is handwritten in ink: HUDSON RIVER ALBUM. / Series of Original Sketches, / from / New York to Hudson City. / P. LODET. / 1806 - 1807. A handwritten ink inscription on the fly leaf reads: To the President, with / affectionate regard,/ Nov. 10, 1933, Mark Eisner. Just below the inscription, is FDR's original ink signature: Franklin D. Roosevelt / The White House - 1933. The bookbinder's name is printed opposite the fly leaf: BOUND BY ZAEHNSDORF, LONDON, ENGLAND.

Label TextThis album of early 19th century sketches by P. Lodet, mainly depicting the Hudson River Valley, was personally given to Franklin D. Roosevelt by Mark Eisner of New York, New York on November 10, 1933 during an appointment Eisner had at the White House. Mark Eisner (1885-1953) was a collector of internal revenue during Woodrow Wilson's presidency.
