DescriptionA pair of bookends featuring the real feet of a Galápagos giant tortoise. Each bookend consists of a tortoise foot mounted on a wood base on an L-shaped piece of textured brown wood. Each foot is capped at the top with a round piece of textured wood to which is attached a metal plaque bearing an engraved inscription that reads: TO / FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT / PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES / FROM LIEUTENANT CARLOS GORDON / COMMANDING ECUADOREAN GARRISON / VILLAMIL, ALBEMARLE ISLAND / GALAPAGOS MARCH 1941. The bottom of each bookend is lined with brown felt, and on the underside of one bookend is a small gold and black metal maker's plaque: JAMES L. CLARK / NEW YORK.
