DescriptionAn original gouache sketch, in two parts, for a mural. It depicts the history of southern Illinois through images of farming, lumbering, and boat traffic on the river. The smaller sketch has a penciled grid pattern. The artist's signature is in lower right of the larger sketch: KARL / KELPE.
The sketch is glazed, matted and framed in a 1" light wood frame. Attached to the bottom is a brass plaque engraved: WPA ART PROGRAM.
Label TextThis sketch was created for the Illinois Art Project, Federal Art Project, Works Progress Administration. The mural that evolved from this sketch study was installed at the Southern Illinois State Teachers' College in Carbondale, Illinois.The sketch is glazed, matted and framed in a 1" light wood frame. Attached to the bottom is a brass plaque engraved: WPA ART PROGRAM.
