DescriptionA round campaign coat-tail pin from the campaigns of Franklin Roosevelt and Percy Hamilton Stewart. On a royal blue background, a dark red horizontal band runs across the center with silver text that reads: FOR REPEAL. Above and below the red band, in silver on blue text, are the names ROOSEVELT (above) and STEWART (below). On the reverse of the button is written: VOTE STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC / N.J. / 1932 / PAID FOR BY / CHARLES F. WAGNER / CAMPAIGN MANAGER / J. WALDMAN NEWARK N.J.
Label TextThe 18th Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1919, banned the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors. Repeal of the amendment was a major plank in the Democratic Party’s 1932 platform and was promoted in campaign buttons and paraphernalia.

This 1932 campaign pin features presidential candidate Franklin Roosevelt and New Jersey Congressman Percy Hamilton Stewart, the Democratic Party’s unsuccessful candidate for the U.S. Senate. Stewart was defeated by the incumbent Senator A. Warren Barbour.
