Physical DescriptionA silver-colored medal with a top bar attached to the medal with two strands of metal links. The top bar is inscribed: F. ROOSEVELT. Inscribed at the center obverse of the medal: RUN. HIGH KICK. / II / G.S.A.A. / '98. / 2ND PRIZE. The maker's mark is on the reverse of the medal: John Harriott, 3 Winter St., Boston.

Historical NoteFDR was not a notable athlete at the Groton School, the boarding school he attended from 1896-1900. But he excelled in one unusual sport—the running high kick. He was awarded this medal in 1898. It is on display in the EDUCATION exhibit in the Museum’s FOUNDATIONS OF A PUBLIC LIFE gallery.
