DescriptionA poster promoting inter-American solidarity during World War II. The poster features a large color cartoon illustration of Adolf Hitler of Germany and Emperor Hirohito of Japan imprisoned within a circular jail of flagpoles flying the flags of various Allied nations. The artist’s facsimile signature is in the lower left corner: “Ontiveros.”
Small Spanish text printed along the bottom of the poster reads: “551404 / Publicado por El Coordinador de Asuntos Interamericanos, Washington, E.U.A.”
Label TextPresident Roosevelt created the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs during World War II to counter Italian and German propaganda in Latin America and promote political, economic, and cultural ties with the United States.
