DescriptionAn original oil on illustration board study for a painting capturing a scene at the 1943 Quebec Conference in Canada. The scene depicts a crowd of mostly standing figures on the terrace of the Citadel (La Citadelle) in Quebec City. At the center of the scene are the seated figures of Franklin D. Roosevelt (left), William L. Mackenzie King (center), and Winston Churchill (right), flanked by their chiefs of staff, and with the flags of their respective countries flying on poles behind them. The tallest tower of the Château Frontenac is visible in the left background.

The drawing is unsigned and undated.
Label TextThe Quebec Conference, code named Quadrant, was held August 17-24, 1943 in Quebec City, Canada, and was attended by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King. It was decided at the conference that D-Day would take place in 1944. Also during the conference, FDR and Churchill signed a secret agreement governing collaboration between the two countries on the development of the atomic bomb.

Canadian artist (Reginald) Hubert Rogers, who was employed by the Canadian Wartime Information Board at the time of the Quebec Conference, created a large painting capturing a moment from the conference. This painting, and drawing MO 1990.7.50.1, are studies for the completed painting which is in the collection of the Canadian War Museum.
