DescriptionTwo miniature cannon models within a presentation case, all souvenirs of Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Each of the identical cannon models consists of a brass gun fastened with brass hardware to a rolling teak wood gun carriage with brass wheels. The guns swivel up and down on the carriages, and each carriage has a removable wedge-shaped piece of wood with a brass knob that rests beneath the gun and allows the angle of the gun to be adjusted. Mounted to the front of each gun carriage is a small brass plaque with an engraved inscription that reads: SOUVENIR / - OF - / OLD FORT HENRY / KINGSTON, CANADA / AUG. 1938.

The custom wood presentation/storage case for the models has a hinged lid, brass hardware, wood inserts, and interior felt lining. A brass plaque, inset into the exterior of the cover, has an engraved inscription that reads: PRESENTED / TO / FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT / PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / BY / THE CANADIAN LEGION / KINGSTON CANADA / AUGUST 18TH 1938 / THE TEAKWOOD COMES FROM THE ORIGINAL / GUN CARRIAGES AT FORT HENRY USED DURING / THE WAR OF 1812.
Label TextPresident Roosevelt received these models during his August 18, 1938 visit to Kingston, Ontario, Canada to receive a degree at Queens College, and to participate at the dedication and opening of the Thousand Islands Bridge.
