DescriptionAn original watercolor and ink drawing with graphite shading, created as a poster design promoting the sale of war bonds during World War II. The drawing features a three-quarter figure of a seated U.S. Army soldier who has been wounded. Looking forward with a fierce look on his face, the soldier is in full olive drab combat uniform, including helmet, and is holding a submachine gun in his lap. His head and left arm are bandaged. A legend in the upper right corner, with white lettering on a black background, reads: BUY WAR SAVINGS BONDS / ITS THE LEAST YOU CAN DO.
The drawing is signed and dated by the artist in black ink in the lower right corner: ARTHUR SZYK / NEW YORK. 1942. The artist has added an inscription in black ink in the lower left corner: TO: MACARTHUR'S MEN.
The drawing is matted in its original hand-decorated mat and framed in a 1/2" black-painted wood frame with gilt trim.
