DescriptionA Theodore Haviland Limoges oval vegetable serving dish from a dinnerware set created for Franklin D. Roosevelt. The white dish has a scalloped rim with a border that has a decorative gold frieze set on a graduated-blue band. The gold monogram "FDR" is located on the left side of the dish's white center.

On the underside of the dish is the manufacturer's mark twice: once stamped in green ("THEODORE HAVILAND / FRANCE") and once printed in gold ("Theodore Haviland / Limoges / FRANCE). Below the maker's marks is an inscription printed in gold that reads: Au Président / Franklin Delano Roosevelt / au bon artisan de la Paix / Septembre 1938 / Les Limousins Reconnaissants [translation: To President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the good artisan of peace, September 1938, from the grateful people of Limousin]. The number "81" is impressed into the left side of the dish.
Label TextThis piece is part of a Limoges dinnerware set (MO 1969.2a,b, MO 1971.8, MO 1972.17.1-10, and MO 1981.4.19.1-47) sent to Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 by the Union Fédérale des Mutilés et Combattants du Limousin in France as an expression of gratitude for his persistent efforts in the maintenance of peace.
