DescriptionA red, white, and blue crocheted 48-star American flag with crocheted stars set in offset rows.
Label TextThis handmade flag was sent to Franklin Roosevelt by the maker, Provie Mason, a 74-year-old Black woman from San Diego, California. A longtime Republican, Mason changed her party registration to Democrat in 1942, around the time she created this flag. The flag was made specifically for FDR, and 5,300 yards of thread were used to create it.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 28, 1942. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
