DescriptionA painting of part of the first expedition of American troops to France during World War I, which left the United States on June 14, 1917 and arrived in France on June 26, 1917. It depicts a group of various-sized modern naval ships in open waters. The painting is signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner: Edmund S. Sayer 1933[?]. Removed from the reverse of the painting (and now stored separately) is a label with a handwritten inscription: "The Marine Convoy" / dedicated to - / The Commander-in-Chief - / FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT. / PRESIDENT of The UNITED STATES. / Edmund S. Sayer [signature].
The painting is framed in a 2 1/8" gold wood frame.
