The prayer has worn into two pieces.
Label TextThis prayer was among the items found inside Eleanor Roosevelt’s wallet after her death. It had been cut from the March 4, 1940 Order of Service bulletin of St. John's Church in Washington, DC. Mrs. Roosevelt attended the church that day for a special service held for President Roosevelt, at which time she heard the prayer delivered by Reverend Endicott Peabody. The prayer made such an impression on Mrs. Roosevelt that she included it in her March 6, 1940 "My Day" column.

A facsimile of the prayer is displayed alongside other items found in the wallet in the Museum’s FIRST LADY OF THE WORLD gallery.
