DescriptionA small black and white engraved portrait of Commodore Esek Hopkins standing on the deck of a ship. Shown with his body front facing, and head turned slightly to the left of the image, Hopkins is attired in his uniform and holding a sword in his right hand. A large, masted ship is seen behind him.

The engraving is mounted on a piece of cardstock.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong collector of prints, engravings, and paintings illustrating the history of the United States Navy. This portrait of Esek Hopkins (1718-1802) is one such example. Hopkins was the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Navy in the early days of the Revolutionary War.
