DescriptionA cut-out silhouette of George Washington's head and torso. The left-facing silhouette, with some drawn and painted details, shows Washington wearing his uniform coat.
On the reverse of the silhouette is a handwritten ink note along with the artist’s signature: "Commdr. Washington / made at Trentn. Jersey / June 1777 / Millette / Nor. 105.”
Label TextThis silhouette of George Washington is attributed to French silhouette artist Jean Millette though there is some question as to the validity of Millette's existence. The silhouette was sent to Franklin D. Roosevelt in December 1933 by Edmund Froese of New York, New York.On the reverse of the silhouette is a handwritten ink note along with the artist’s signature: "Commdr. Washington / made at Trentn. Jersey / June 1777 / Millette / Nor. 105.”
