DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon referencing Argentina’s late alliance with the Allies during World War II. The cartoon depicts a boat named “ALLIES” departing from a dock. Pictured on the stern of the boat are Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Joseph Stalin standing together and watching a man dressed as an Argentinian gaucho, and holding a travel bag labeled “ARGENTINA,” leap onto the boat from the dock. Churchill says, “QUITE A JUMPER,” while FDR finishes with, “. . . BUT HE DIDN’T MISS THE BOAT!” The artist’s signature and a handwritten inscription are in the lower left corner: “JIM BERRYMAN / EVENING STAR / All good wishes to another good navy guy – ‘Ken Stevener [?]’.”
Label TextIt is not known if this cartoon by Jim Berryman was published in the Washington Evening Star which he worked for at the time.
