DescriptionA Danish decorative silver urn, tubular in shape and simple in design, with a removable lid. The lid is surmounted by a circular handle consisting of the scrolled monogram "F I" (for Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Ingrid) and topped with the royal crown of Denmark. Engraved on the lid is an inscription that reads: PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D ROOSEVELT AND MRS ROOSEVELT IN REMEMBRANCE OF OUR VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA • 1939 •.

The urn was designed by Swedish architect and designer Sigvard Bernadotte and made by Georg Jensen Silversmithy of Copenhagen, Denmark. The maker's and designer's marks are on the underside of the lid and on the underside of the urn.
Label TextThis urn was presented to Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt as a remembrance gift by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Ingrid of Denmark who visited the United States in 1939. The designer of the urn, Sigvard Bernadotte, was a member of the Swedish Royal Family and the brother of Crown Princess Ingrid.
