DescriptionA bronze statuette of a standing donkey on an integrated rectangular base. The sculptor's name is etched into the surface of the base near the donkey's hind legs: MADELEINE PARK. The foundry mark is stamped into the edge of the base behind the donkey's hind legs: GORHAM CO. FOUNDERS / 01SR.
Label TextThis donkey statuette was given to Franklin Roosevelt in August 1934 by the sculptor, Madeleine Park of Katonah, NY. Madeleine Park (1891 - 1960) was a New York sculptor specializing in animal art and was known for working with live subjects. FDR displayed the statuette on a side table in the White House Oval Office.
