DescriptionA four-masted wooden model of the barque (or bark), DIRIGO. The ship has a black hull, green deck trim, and sails painted gray to give a billowing effect. The model sits on a plaster base painted to represent the ocean inside a glass and wooden case to which is attached a metal inscription plate: ROUNDED THE HORN. / UNDER REDUCED CANVAS. / BY CAPTN J. GRUND. / LAKESIDE CAL.
Label TextThis model was presented to President Roosevelt by the maker, Captain Josiah Grundy of Lakeside, California, in December 1937.
