DescriptionA model of a Hawaiian outrigger canoe carved from one piece of highly polished brown Koa wood. The canoe includes one paddle. Attached to one side of the hull is an inscribed metal silver plaque reading: TO / PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT / FROM / HAWAIIAN - JAPANESE CIVIC ASSOCIATION / JULY 1934. Mounted to the top of the plaque is a multi-colored enamel shield, presumably Hawaiian. On the starboard side of the hull is attached a small cardstock label with a number handwritten in ink: 44.
Label TextThis model was presented to President Roosevelt by the Hawaiian Japanese Civic Association in July 1934.
