DescriptionA paper on cloth advertising poster for the Delano Life Preserving Coat & Vest Co., manufacturers of men's, women's & children's life preserving garments, located on 256 Broadway, New York. The lithographed advertisement features four depictions in color of shipwrecks and drowning people. On either side of the poster is a written testimonial about the attributes of the T. A. Delano inflatable life vest: one by George W. Cullum, Captain, U.S. Engineer; and one by Charles C. Turner, Commandant, U.S. Navy, along with four other members of the U.S. Navy .
The advertisement also includes information that the company was granted a patent on November 9, 1858, and was incorporated in January 1859 with $125,000 in capital. Printed along the bottom of the poster is the advertisement maker's information: LITH. OF SARONY, MAJOR & KNAPP. 449 BROADWAY. N.Y.
A pencil note on the reverse of the poster reads: Melrose, N.Y. 1925.
